Kerwin’s Bill to Modernize Milk Marketing Law Passes House Unanimously

HARRISBURG – Rep. Joe Kerwin (R-Dauphin) announced his milk marketing legislation, House Bill 1006, passed the House unanimously today. This legislation will update the Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Law and better align certification timelines and regulatory practices with current industry standards. Kerwin’s bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.

“This is a simple, common-sense update that saves time for our dairy industry and helps the state run more efficiently,” Kerwin said. “I appreciate the bipartisan support of my efforts, and I look forward to this legislation passing the Senate and being signed into law by the Governor,” Kerwin added.

Under current law, milk testers, weighers and samplers must renew their certifications every year. House Bill 1006 will make the renewal process occur every two years. This legislation will reduce paperwork and make the process more efficient for Pennsylvania’s dairy industry. House Bill 1006 would also remove outdated fees from 1937.
